Presenting Dr Jenni Lightowlers!

Congratulations to FAL’s founding Partner, Jenni Lightowlers, who was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Deakin University on 6 October 2016.

Honorary degrees are conferred by the University Council following consideration by the Honorary Degrees Committee.

The Honorary Doctorate acknowledges Jenni’s outstanding service to Deakin University as Deputy Chancellor from 2008 to 2015, as a member of University Council from 2004 to 2015 and for significant and sustained contribution to research in Australia as an expert advisor on innovation and commercialisation.

Jenni is currently a Vice Chancellor’s Distinguished Fellow and sits on the Law School Advisory Board for Deakin University. From 2017, Jenni has been reappointed Chair of Deakin University’s Legislation Committee.

As a founding Partner of FAL Lawyers, Jenni has advised on some of the most complex technology and research development projects ever to have taken place in Australia. She is often considered “an esteemed presence in the marketplace” for many of her long term clients and colleagues in the commercial and intellectual property space. Jenni was recognised globally in 2015 and 2016 by International Law Office/Lexology as one of the world’s leading lawyers in life sciences.

Jenni also has extensive experience in evaluating and structuring legislation, preparing Ministerial Briefing Papers, drafting Policy documents, has worked on a multi-lateral treaty and provides advice to Universities in the South Pacific.

Jenni is also a founder and an active participant in Shared Table, a not-for-profit organisation established to support individuals in the community who are experiencing severe hardship. In addition, Jenni is a trustee of an organisation which supports children with acquired brain injury.
